Also, an exclusive GBA three-player mode would have been excellent as well, with each player taking control of an individual Viking, trying to work together to complete the set task. A Time Trial mode would have increased the replay of The Lost Vikings, as it could allow players to replay their completed levels to beat the recorded times. While we're certainly thankful that Blizzard gave us a cartridge save instead of the original game's password engine, the developers forgot to enable the ability to go back to previously solved levels.just for fun. Admittedly the graphics aren't quite up there to the GBA standard, with lower color backgrounds and pixel-art sprites.but the imagery still does its job, and the animation is still pretty funny with some decent sight gags happening throughout the action.īlizzard always intended this game as a direct conversion of the original design, but we can't help but think that the game could have been better with a few simple inclusions. There are some control solutions that don't really make much sense (push R and A at the same time to activate a transporter or button.why not just push up?), but all in all the handheld port has been handled extremely faithful by GBA developer Mass Media - right down to the catchy soundtrack that plays in the background. Since the game's a direct port of a game on a console with far more action buttons than the GBA, the developers had to make due with the system's four-button configuration. It's really a puzzle game with some platform elements, but that's the game's real charm. Luckily, if a Viking takes a hit from an enemy, or takes a short tumble, they can replenish the lost health point with found fruit and meat in a specific level but if a Viking hits electricity or falls too far, it's a one-hit death.Īll of the levels in the game are laid out linearly, and require specific actions to get through to the exit.so there's not a whole lot of "freestyle" gameplay in The Lost Vikings. If even one Viking bites it during the level, players will have to restart since they can't finish a level without all three Vikings at the exit. Players can only overcome the specific obstacles by having the Vikings work together. And Olaf the Stout carries around a shield that can block most projectiles, and lets him glide to safety if he holds it above his head. Baelog the Fierce wields weaponry, both up close and distance. Erik the Swift is the fastest and the only Viking that can jump. But these Vikings are extremely skilled, each one honing a few special techniques of his own. I like the art style of most of your games and enjoy the gameplay. The Lost Vikings puts players in full control of three Vikings lifted out of their cozy Norwegian village by an alien who's looking to add a few new humans to its collection. Besides that, the game is pretty good! Challenging but fun. This confuses me because there was no video to watch in the first place, just a random website. The future guy just says something along the lines of “oh you were supposed to watch the entire video”. I exit the website and return to the game to find out I didn’t receive anything. And when I can “view” the ads, I get redirected to a random website with no instruction on what to do. I’m not sure if it’s just my game or the entire system altogether but I’m not able to view these ads sometimes. Also, the “free resources” system with the ads is completely broken. I think a way to buy resources like wood with coins would be a great addition and would allow players to get more resources without having to wait for energy. So much so, that the box for the SNES version of this game specifically says it was by the guys who did Warcraft. The resource gathering in the game is blocked by an energy cost. Not too long after the release of the original Lost Vikings, Blizzard had made it big with games like Warcraft, one of the RTSes that would go on to shape the fledgling genre, and Diablo. First off, I just wanna say, this is a good game with so much more potential.
